NORTHSIDE’S JONES SIGNS WITH LETOURNEAU

Meegan Jones became the latest Northside Lady Bear softball player to sign to play at the college level before her senior season started. On Friday, Jones officially signed to play for LeTourneau University, a Division III school located in Longview, Texas. “I liked how the school felt like home as soon as I got onto campus,” Jones, the fourth Lady Bear to sign to play college softball this off-season, said. “Everyone was coming up and saying ‘Hi,’ and asking if I planned on going here. “I ended up choosing to sign at LeTourneau due to the opportunity with softball along with having an amazing feeder for medical school that I couldn’t really find anywhere else. I chose to go D3 instead of D1 due to that reason along with the fact that the teacher to student ratio is like 1:20 instead of 1:300, which I feel like you need to be successful in school, especially with taking medical classes.” Jones is also looking forward to the opportunity to play for LeTourneau’s softball program, under the direction of coach Stan Wells. “I love the coaching staff; the head coach has turned into another father figure, he’s always making sure I’m doing what I’m supposed to and keeping up with how I’m doing,” Jones said. “The team is definitely one in a million; you can tell they all love being there and would help each other out whenever with whatever.” An infielder who primarily plays third base, Jones played for the Lady Bears her freshman and sophomore seasons but did not play last season as a junior. As a sophomore, she batted .339 with 10 RBIs while having an on-base percentage of .415 and a slugging percentage of .482.
