There’s more to Isaiah Joe’s game than 25-foot 3-pointers.

The University of Arkansas commit put on a show last week at the 39th annual Coca-Cola Classic. He finished the event with long 3-pointers, an incredible dunk, and Friday broke the single-game scoring record for the event.

Joe scored 92 points in Northside’s three games, including an electrifying 45 in Friday’s 72-71 loss to Hall. The huge night, which included going 25-for-25 at the free throw line, broke the 39-year-old single game scoring record set the first year of the tournament in 1978.

The tournament was officially changed to the Coca-Cola Classic the following year.

Joe, who helped lead Northside to the 7A state championship last March, is the only returning starter left from last year’s team.

“It’s a young group, but a very mature group,” Northside assistant coach Greg Scott said. “We’re bringing it together, slowly but surely.”

The Grizzlies open 7A-Central play Friday against a very good Bryant team.

After last week’s heart-stomping loss to Hall, which won the overall Coca-Cola Classic, Northside responded with a 70-41 win over Charleston.

Joe had 23 points in the victory, including a one-handed dunk as he nearly cleared Charleston’s Chase Ewing.
